How to keep your pieces looking new
Anti-tarnish jewelry is built to be low-maintenance, not no-maintenance. A few small habits will keep your pieces looking the way they did on day one.
The basics
- Put jewelry on last. After perfume, lotion, sunscreen and hairspray — these are the most common cause of dulling.
- Wipe it down. A soft dry cloth after wearing removes skin oils and sweat residue.
- Store it dry and separate. A pouch, a lined box, or individual compartments. Pieces rubbing against each other is what causes scratches.
Water, sweat and swimming
Anything in our Waterproof Edit is made for water. You can shower, sweat and swim in it. Two things worth knowing:
- Chlorine and salt water are harder on any finish than plain water. Rinse with fresh water afterwards and dry properly.
- Hot tubs combine heat and concentrated chemicals — the toughest environment for plated jewelry. Take pieces off for these.
What to avoid
- Bleach, chlorine-based cleaners and other harsh household chemicals
- Abrasive polishes, polishing cloths meant for solid silver, and ultrasonic cleaners
- Wearing pieces during heavy manual work, weightlifting with bars, or anything that scrapes metal against metal
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild soap and a soft cloth is all you need. Rinse, dry completely, and store. Do not soak plated pieces for long periods.
Gold or silver — same care
Both finishes sit on the same stainless steel base and are treated identically. There's no difference in how you look after them.
A realistic expectation
With normal wear and the habits above, an anti-tarnish finish holds its colour far longer than standard plated jewelry. It is still a finish, not solid metal — over years of daily wear, high-friction areas like ring bands will show wear first. That's normal for all plated jewelry, at every price point.
